Who is a traveler?
While visiting the Red Cross Museum in Geneva, we came upon an exhibit about the Rwandan genocide. The small room, looked almost like a cubicle; its walls plastered with Polaroids of young children who had been displaced by the violence. Most of the children's faces wore looks of shock and confusion. They had been forced from their homes into a new land and a new way of life. Even though the thought probably never crossed their minds, their displacement made them travelers. Of course, they did not travel in the same way as Ella Maillart or Nicolas Bouvier because force alone motivated their journey. However, they still experienced new lands and learned new customs, even if it was done subconsciously.
